Back to School Family Orientation Event

This year, our event will be digital! We have set up the entire event through Google Meet both to keep our community safe, and so that everyone will have a chance to check that their student can log on and get connected in the app they'll be using for class. For this reason, we recommend that you access the event from your student's device, with their YWA email login. That way, we can solve any tech issues before their first day of class.
8:00am - 8:30am: Virtual Coffee with Jed and the YWA Community

At this informal event, you'll be able to start your day with our Executive Director and talk to him about YWA's community, vision, and goals for the year. It's a great time for you to meet fellow YWA families and learn about some of the projects YWA is working on. This event will not be recorded.
8:30am - 10:00am: Open Meet and Greet with Our Teachers
Look at the attached document "Teacher Meet and Greet Rooms" to find the links and calendar events to the meet and greet rooms for your student's teachers. It's ok if you don't know who your student's teachers are yet, schedules will be sent out in the last week of August. Feel free to drop into any of the teacher's Meet and Greet and say hi. This is a great time to get to know who will be teaching your student, learn what their classroom expectations are, and see if your student will need any special supplies. These events will not be recorded.
10:00am - 10:30am: How to Support Your Student's Distance Learning

Join our Education Team to learn what distance learning will look like and what you can do to help your student be successful. We will talk about where you should set up their space, what technology they might need, and how you and your household can support them and more!
10:30am - 11:30am: Family Community Group Orientation

Join Jed and Kaia to discuss what the Family Community Group is (a packet of information is attached) and how to get involved. Not only is the Family Community Group a great way to be involved in YWA and make your and your student's needs heard, but it's the core of our social and community space for families.
11:30am - 12:00am: Our Guidance Counselor and Social Emotional Learning

Join our Guidance Counselor, Taylor Anderson, and our Student Well-Being Assistant, Jamey Moriarty, in learning about how to reach out to our Guidance Counselor, what he can help you with and our Social-Emotional Learning program.
12:00am - 12:30pm: Project Days Orientation

If your student is participating in Project Days, this is where you will learn all the details you will need to make that successful. Our Education team will address your questions, explain our safety procedures, and make sure you and your student both know everything you need to know about how to make Project Days a success.
