Robust Support for Every Learner
We provide a personalized learning experience tailored to each student’s academic interests, needs, and schedule. Our dedicated student support team designs individualized academic plans with significant family input, helping students close learning gaps, explore high interest areas, and achieve long-term goals. Student support starts at enrollment, where our staff take the time to become an expert on how your student learns.
Our staff is highly experienced in providing specially designed instruction and accommodations, with a multitude of curriculum options to find the best fit.

In-person and online instruction:
If your student is balancing travel, extra-curricular activities, or reluctance to attend, Yellow Wood students can access instruction WHERE they need it. Create a schedule that works for your family, whether it in-person, online, or a hybrid schedule. Our online courses are taught by dedicated instructors who craft their curriculum to meet your students’ needs- no canned, online curriculum here!
-
Our daily schedule allows for maximum flexibility and responsiveness to your student’s needs. Yellow Wood students can attend full-time, part-time, and be dual-enrolled with other public and private schools. Many of our students attend Yellow Wood part-time, continuing on to classes at their neighborhood school or nearby Bellevue College. Class does not have to start at first period- students can also choose between start and end times throughout the day!

At Yellow Wood, we believe that students excel when they have clearly defined goals and are supported every step of the way. One tool we utilize is Standards-Based Grading (SBG), so instead of focusing on test scores or point accumulation, we look for skill mastery over time. This approach fosters continuous growth, encourages students to self-assess, and empowers them to take ownership of their learning journey.
Families also receive biweekly updates from each teacher discussing their student’s progress in each class, and can reach out any time to their assigned student support administrator for updates.
-
On Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays at 10am, our students join their age group cohort for Social Emotional Learning using the Character Strong curriculum, taught by our Yellow Wood teachers. The lessons focus on intentionally building character traits through interactive activities and discussions with peers.
-
On Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am, students participate in self-selected clubs, including Robotics, Culinary Exploration, Student Government, Music, Video Games, Art, and Chess. New clubs are added every semester, based on student input!
-
We offer a robust roster of all school events to build student pride and connection to Yellow Wood. From International Day to STEAM Fair to the Silent Disco, Yellow Wood provides a multitude of opportunities for students to showcase their interests.
-
Yellow Wood students can enroll privately or through district placement. For families seeking a private school education, please reach out to our team to discuss how we can craft a truly individualized education for your student!
Yellow Wood also collaborates with 15 local school districts to serve the needs of students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The IEP team may choose to place a student at Yellow Wood Academy as we are an OSPI-approved Non-Public Agency (NPA). Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) is woven seamlessly into students’ daily schedules. Our students are not pulled from class in order to receive SDI; rather, students’ instructional “minutes” are built into their day. The first point of contact for any NPA placement is the students’ district case manager.
